This study will assess the mechanisms by which type 2 diabetes develops in people of Black West African and White European ancestry. It has been suggested that type 2 diabetes develops by different mechanisms in people of Black West African ancestry compared to people of White European ancestry. We plan to undertake a detailed investigation of the mechanisms by which diabetes develops and how this differs between people of Black West African and White European origin to guide better treatment.
